Can Nappa leather get wet?
Nappa leather can get wet, but it’s not ideal for it to be soaked in water for a long time. When Nappa leather gets a little wet from a light rain splash or a small spill, it can usually handle it if you take proper care right away. For instance, if a few drops of water fall on a Nappa leather wallet or a pair of shoes made of this leather, you can quickly wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
However, if Nappa leather gets completely soaked, like if you leave a Nappa leather bag out in a heavy rainstorm or submerge it in water accidentally, it can cause problems. The water can seep into the leather and affect its texture. It might make the leather become stiff when it dries or cause discoloration in some cases.
Over time, repeated wetting and drying without proper treatment can also damage the leather’s quality. The natural oils in the leather that contribute to its softness and durability can be washed away by excessive water. So, while it can handle a bit of moisture now and then, it’s important to protect Nappa leather from getting overly wet and to let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated area if it does get wet.
